WHAT:
Our prompt was to research the UI pain points for users navigating a government website of our choice in order to improve accessibility for both desktop and mobile experiences and create prototypes. We ultimately created a low and High Fi Prototype for both experiences choosing to focus on the main navigation and feature of participating in the Botanic Gardens virtual Yoga Classes, since COVID restrictions had the most impact on the Gardens Events.
(This was the website in 2020 that we evaluated, it has been updated since)
First, we evaluated the botanical gardens' current site by conducting a WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) test, which failed.
We also created redline annotations for all pages in the current experience involved in our chosen user flow. As well as connected card sorting tests to fully improve the site's main navigation.
Combining the results into one final sitemap.
We made small but impactful edits to the style guild by changing the green tones to pass the Accessibility Guidelines and bringing the logo font into the experience. We also added some seasonal secondary colors.
